In 2009, Rosie and I had been together barely a month, when we took our first trip; we flew to Santa Fe, NM to see JD Souther perform. I lived and traveled in a motor home for six years so I’ve had the pleasure of seeing JD perform in New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon, Washington state, California, Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee. Obviously, I’m a huge fan of his work … and you can probably tell that he and Rosie have their own mutual admiration society.
Back in the day, gawd I sound so old, JD and Jackson Browne were sometimes referred to as the fifth and sixth Eagles. JD co-wrote some of their best known songs, including Best of my Love and New Kid in Town. This is off his latest album, Tenderness, which was released this just past year.
I’m thrilled to see JD is still putting out new material and performing. Perhaps one day down the road I will get an opportunity to introduce him to Ivy — Rosie’s successor.
You've been up too late, sitting in a cooled room Staring at the ceiling, waiting for a call I know where you live. I can hear you breathing No matter what you do now, tears are gonna fall Something in the dark Is big enough to hold you It's picking at your heart A little piece at a time There's a shadow on the wall You hear voices in an empty room Something in the dark Will get you every time There's nothing you can say you haven't said already Nowhere you can go that you haven't been You could have made a deal when your hands were steady Before you shut the door on your only friend Something in the dark Is big enough to hold you It's picking at your heart A little piece at a time A shadow on the wall and You hear voices in an empty room Something in the dark Will get you every time You better watch your step, if you ever take one You could stumble in the darkness or fumble in the light Your breath is getting heavy, drowning out your footsteps You can run, run, run, and never get it right Something in the dark Is big enough to hold you It's picking you apart A little piece at a time You could try to scream But nobody can hear you Something in the dark Will get you every time --For Judee
